School Carols Night - Thursday 4 December - Musicians required

As part of our Christmas Concert, classes will be presenting an item. We will also have the Senior Choir lead us in some traditional carols for the whole school community to join in. As we have many talented, musical parents within the school community, we are seeking expressions of interest from parents who may like to play their instrument in a small band to accompany the choir in the carol singing. If you are interested in joining in please let Ms Draper know by 15 November.

Band Rehearsal - Week 4 (Wednesday 5 November)

Ms Draper only requires those band members who are attending the Canning Schools Concert on 8 November to come to band rehearsal next Wednesday. It is very important that all students who are attending the concert be at rehearsal.

ART FUNDRAISER - Greeting Cards, Calendars and more!

We are doing a fundraising campaign with Kids Card Designs. Your child has produced a fantastic piece of art, which will be sent home for you to see along with an order form. These were sent home this week on Monday the 27th and Wednesday the 29th for Kindy students.

The artwork can be turned into a whole range of useful products including - iPhone cases, iPad, iPod and iPad Mini cases, a fabulous ready-made Recipe book or a family photo on the front cover of greeting cards, calendars, write on/wipe off magnetic fridge planners, handy-sized diaries and for you to order.

These fundraising products are unique, as they will feature artwork designed by your child or a family photo, and will provide a lasting memento for you to give as a gift or keep for yourselves.

Artwork and order forms will go home together. Please return all orders, payments and artwork by the date outlined on the order form.

To place an order, please see the following:

  1. Please return the order form, art and payment together to your child's classroom.
  2. Please DO NOT fold or staple the artwork as this damages the artwork, which can affect final images.
  3. For families, please return all siblings artwork, orders and payments compiled together (please not stapled), handed in by one child.

Should you have order queries please contact: or 0435 240 270.

This is a healthy fundraising venture where kids get to use their creativity to raise funds for our school, and we encourage you to get on board.

Thank you for your support.

A note was sent home this week with information regarding ticket orders for our School Disco. Please complete the order form at the bottom of this note and return to the school office with the correct money by Wednesday 6 November. Thank you.

October is Community Safety Month

Playground safety

Play is important for your child's physical, emotional, mental and social development. Playgrounds are fun and provide children of all ages with excellent opportunities for physical activity. Here are some tips for keeping your child engaged and safe in playgrounds:

  • Encourage your child to have fun and try new things.
  • Visit different playgrounds in the community to keep things new and interesting.
  • Arrange to meet friends at playgrounds.
  • Always supervise your child.
  • Encourage your child to take turns, play safely and think about others.
  • Help your child to develop a simple set of playground rules.
  • Remember to protect you and your child from the sun.
  • Check how your child is dressed - clothing or hats with cords could result in injury.
  • If you notice any damage to the playground, report it immediately

Sun safety

With the hot weather approaching, it is important to talk to your children about sun safety and teach them good sun protection habits.

  • Slip on some sun-protective clothing - that covers as much skin as possible
  • Slop on broad spectrum, water resistant SPF30+ sunscreen. Put it on 20 minutes before you go outdoors and every two hours afterwards. Sunscreen should never be used to extend the time you spend in the sun.
  • Slap on a hat - that protects your face, head, neck and ears
  • Seek shade
  • Slide on some sunglasses - make sure they meet Australian Standards.

Extra care should be taken between 10am and 3pm when UV levels reach their peak.

For more information see the Cancer Council website.

Water safety

In Australia, drowning is the number one cause of death for children under five. To keep your children safe around water;

  • Always stay with your children and watch carefully when they are near water, even if they can swim.
  • Teach your children about water safety and make sure they learn how to swim.
  • Have the whole family learn first aid.
  • If you have a pool have it fenced with self-closing gates.
  • Never leave children alone in the bath or paddle pool.
  • Beware of garden ponds, large buckets and other small bodies of water.

For more information on swimming lessons during summer via Vacswim is available on the Education Department website, and for water safety tips see.
