MUSIC NEWS

Final Performance for the Year

Mrs Draper would like the members of the junior choir who performed at Stockland Riverton last Saturday to meet outside the front office on Friday morning ready to sing at 8.30 am with your Christmas hats and shirts on!

Thank You

Thank you to all the parents who have helped out with our Christmas performances over the last week. Thank you for finding the time to bring the Choir members to Stockland Riverton Shopping centre last Saturday and to the Graduation Mass last night. Also a very big thank you to the parents who assisted as taxi drivers and roadies for the members of our instrumental ensemble who performed at St John of God Hospital and Stockland Riverton last Monday. It is great for our talented Orana musicians to share their music with the wider community and it would not be possible without your support and assistance, so thank you very much.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC PROGRAM 2014

Students will be advised by Friday if they were successful in gaining a place in the music programme next year. The Instrumental teachers will be in contact with you before the start of the school year. Continuing students automatically retain their place.

FAREWELL

We will be farewelling two of our Instrumental Teachers at the end of this year. Our Flute teacher, Miss Belinda Callaway has secured a full-time classroom music teaching position at St Hilda's for 2014. She will be replaced by Miss Jennifer Currenti who has already done some relief flute teaching at Orana.

Miss Thea Rossen will be leaving after securing a scholarship to further her percussion studies at the National Academy of Music in Melbourne.

Mrs Jacqui O'Neill will be replaced temporarily by her husband, Shane O'Neill, who is the Clarinet Specialist at Penrhos College, Corpus Christi College and Guildford Grammar School. Mrs O'Neill will be back later in 2014 after welcoming her first child in January. We wish Jacqui and Shane all the best for the impending birth.

CORPUS CHRISTI COLLEGE APPLICATIONS FOR ADMISSION 2016

Final call for applications for admission into Year 7, 2016. Parents of current Year 4 students (entering Year 5, 2014) who are interested in joining the Corpus Christi College community for Year 7 in 2016 are urged to ensure their applications have been submitted by 31 January 2014. Current families who have not submitted applications for siblings are expected to submit applications immediately to the College Registrar: Phone: 6332 2567. Any applications received after January 31 2014 will be deemed "late" and will be placed on a wait list until Round Two (end of Semester One). Interviews for Year 7, 2016 will be conducted during Term One 2014 with the first round of offers to new families to be finalised by the commencement of Term Two. Sibling students do not normally require an interview, unless specifically requested by the Principal. Sibling offers will be forwarded to families before the end of the 2013 academic year. Limited vacancies for suitable applicants are available for Years 11 and 12 for 2014.

FREE FAMILY CHRISTMAS EVENT AT KADIDJINY PARK (CITY OF MELVILLE)

A free Community Christmas Event has been organized for the children and families of Perth in conjunction with raising funds for the Keng Tung Orphanage in Burma. The event will take place at Kadidjiny Park in Melville on Saturday 21 December at 1.30pm. I have reserved the amphitheater area which has lovely space under the trees for the "Christmas Tree Fairy" to perform her festive musical storytelling show. Families are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy in the park before the show, and there is a wonderful nature playground to explore too!

FUNDRAISING SUNDOWNER

To be held Saturday afternoon 14 December from 4.30pm onwards at the James Nestor Auditorium at Corpus Christi College (Murdoch Drive Bateman). I am supporting a primary school in Kenya called the Mama Paulina School of Hope. We are hoping to get as many people together on Saturday, a $50 donation is what we are asking for from all our guests, food and entertainment will be provided and cheap drinks for purchase. It is hoped to raise sufficient funds to build a playground in January, refurbish the existing classrooms, build 2 new toilet drop pit toilets, provide additional educational supplies, a new water tank and 'finally' we will connect the school with electricity. Thank you for your support and I hope to see you for a few hours on Saturday afternoon.
