Guitar Concert week 7

On Thursday 28 November the Orana classical guitar students will be showcasing their beautiful guitar playing. The concert will be in the school hall from 6.30 - 7.30 pm. Everyone is invited to attend. If you are thinking of playing the guitar in 2014 why not come and see what you can achieve?

Instrumental Music Program 2014

Notes will be going home this week to students in Yrs 3-5 who are interested in playing a musical instrument at Orana in 2014. Places are limited and priority will be given to continuing students. Some tutors will accept students in Year 3 if there are sufficient places and if we feel the student is capable of making the commitment required. Notes will not be given to current Yr 2 students. Mrs Draper is happy for you to come and discuss this matter with her if you have a current Yr 2 child who is interested.

Instruments being left at school

There are an average of 10 musical instruments being left in the music room every weekend so far this term. At this stage of the year students should be in the habit of remembering to take instruments home. Instrumental ensemble members have a number of pieces to rehearse for a number of Christmas performances. It is hard to practise without an instrument.

Graduation Mass - Senior and Junior Choir Performance

Junior choir members who will be singing at the Graduation Mass are invited to attend choir rehearsal on a Wednesday morning with the senior choir to rehearse the graduation songs. This is the only time we have to rehearse for this Mass.

Junior Choir Performance at Stockland Riverton

The junior choir has 7 carols to perform on Saturday 7 December. All students should have a copy of the words. There are 3 songs in particular they need to learn. Students have been asked to sing in the car, in the shower or wherever they can think of to ensure they know their words in time. Mrs Draper has extra copies of the words if you require them. We will be organising a few extra rehearsals on Friday afternoon at 2.30 pm. To assist with this, it would be great to have people at choir on time on Tuesday morning.

For the next two weeks Mrs Draper would only like band members to come to band if they will be playing in the Orana Band in 2014. This is to allow us to give out some new music for 2014. A reminder to new band members that they will need to come with their instruments. Please also bring your music and a water bottle to rehearsal.

A very big thank you to all the Year 6 families who contributed to the cake stall and the Orana families who supported the sale. As your generosity more than exceeded our expectations, we we have cancelled the second cake stall on 29 November. Thank you again for your contribution.

The Year 6 students are fundraising for orphans and poor children in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Next Wednesday, our students are invited to replace one item of the regular school uniform with something a little more colourful. The aim is to raise enough money to buy 30 school uniforms so Cambodian children can attend school. Children in this area of Cambodia cannot attend school unless they have a uniform to wear. Many families are fighting to provide their family with enough food to survive and do not have any money to buy a uniform. Each uniform costs $27.00.

Please help these children by donating money on our Crazy Shirt Day.

Thank you to everyone.

The teachers and students in Year 6.
