This day, Father,
 may my eyes be opened
 to see the beauty
in all that is ordinary - yet special -
around me.

May the glory of all that you have made
remind me of your presence
and lead me closer to you.

Dear Parents and Carers

I hope you all had an enjoyable holiday and have come back refreshed and ready to tackle the busy term ahead.

An updated version of the Term Calendar is being sent home today. Please disregard the one sent out last term as the latest one has several changes. Yr 6 parents please note the change of date of the Graduation Assembly from Friday 6th December to Wednesday 11th December.

The NAPLAN results were sent home yesterday to all students in Year 3 & Year 5. If your child did not receive their results please let your classroom teacher know.

Student photos will be sent home today (Thursday). If you have a special order, please call into the office to collect your photo pack. Any enquiries regarding photos may be directed to "msp photography" on 93423465.
Choir and band photos will arrive at the school office by Week Three. Parents are asked to view and order photos directly from the office.

If you have a particular request regarding which class your child is placed in for the 2014 school year, please put your request in writing to Mr McMahon. All requests will be looked at, however, it is important to realise that the final decision as to which class a student is placed in rests with the school. All factors are considered and the decisions are made in the best interests of the school students. All written requests should be received by Mr McMahon by Friday, 8th November.

Next Tuesday, 22 October, is the Orana Athletics Carnival. All children from Kindy through to Year 6 will be involved in both running races and team games. The format of the carnival will be a little different this year with team games running concurrently with some running races. This ensures that the children are not sitting idle in their bays for long periods of time. Click here for the program of events.
Any last minute lunch orders for Sports Day must be in by tomorrow, Friday, 18 October.

First Child Tax Offset - for parents of Year 4, 5 and 6 students

I have included this information from a flyer received. It may be of interest to parents. "In brief, the government In 2001 introduced the "First Child Tax Offset". This was one of the first types of baby bonuses introduced, but unlike todays Baby Bonus Schemes it was not given much media exposure and was confusing. As a result many parents have missed out on claiming this entitlement.

The offset was introduced to compensate parents for reduced income that followed the arrival of a child born between 1 July 2001 and 30 June 2004. There is information on the ATO website, but like many entitlements it is difficult to understand.

Unfortunately, the Australian Tax Office has now placed a deadline on claiming this offset (and, again, this deadline has not been widely promoted). With so many parents still unaware that they are eligible for this payment, we are attempting to advise as many as possible before the cut-off date."

This year, the end of year reports will not be sent home with the children in the last week of school. Primary schools now receive five pupil free days at the end of each year. There is an expectation from the Catholic Education Office that reports are finalised by the school during these days.

Reports will be available for collection from the school office between 9:00am-3:00pm on Monday, 16th December. The teachers will also be available on this day for interviews between 9:00am-3:00pm. If you wish to have an interview with a classroom teacher, please ring the office and schedule an appointment time by Tuesday, 11 December. Any report not collected on Monday, 16th December will be posted to the home address we have on file in the office.
God bless and have a great term,

Andrea Woodgate
Assistant Principal
