Dear Parents

Training continues in preparation for the interschool cross-country carnival to be held on Tuesday 8 September at Manning Park, Hamilton Hill (just near the end of Phoenix Road). Teams of five runners per event will compete with the first four runners across the line from each school having their results recorded. Congratulations to all those runners who will be representing the school for this. Their names are listed in today's newsletter, the medal winners are the first three named in each group.

Performing Arts Festival

I would like to thank all the students who participated in this year's Performing Arts Festival. In total we received 45 Honourable Mentions or Certificates of Merit out of a total of 63 separate entries into the Festival involving about 180 different students in the school. This is a large participation rate for any school and there are not too many other schools that could boast such an achievement level across many different categories. Congratulations to the students for all their many hours of continual practice and special mention to our teacher of Music here at Orana, Sarah Draper. Her expertise, dedication and discipline has allowed students to shine in the area of Arts to a level that is receiving recognition throughout the Catholic schools sector and beyond.

Whilst the final week for our students in the Performing Arts Festival was to be last week, it is with a great deal of pleasure that I am able to announce that the Senior Liturgical Choir are this year's recipient of the Archbishop Foley Award for the Primary Liturgical Choir section, and have been invited to perform at the Performing Arts Final Concert on Monday 14 September (Perth Concert Hall).

Seating is reserved for all performers in the Festival Concert. Performers do not need to purchase tickets, however, general bookings for the Concert are available online through Ticketek at or Ph 132 849. You should book without delay as tickets do sell out quickly for this event.

School Photos

Thank you to all for the extra effort in ensuring that the students were both prepared and well-presented for the school photographs this year. The photographers have now concluded their work here and we should expect to have the photos returned in about 4 -5 week's time. Thank you to Miss Whyte for coordinating the programme again this year.

Open Night

This evening is the school's Open Night, an opportunity for parents and extended families to view the work on display, not only your child's work , but also the great work being produced across all year levels. This year we have invited new families entering the school in 2016 families to attend.

Thank you teachers for the effort that has been put into ensuring that the classrooms are ready for tonight's Open Night. Special thanks to the children who are the producers of the work on display. Parking is available on the school oval (enter from Querrin Avenue onto oval and exit through onto Chelmer Way.).

Open Night is from 5.00pm - 7.00pm and I politely remind parents that the evening should not double as an informal parent teacher interview time. We value communication between school and home on the progress of your child but at a more suitable time than what Open Night offers.

A reminder that we have the Grandparents Mass on this Friday as we want to recognize these special people for what they provide by way of support both here at school and within their respective families. This Mass will commence at 9.00am on this Friday 4 September in the school hall.

In Jock's absence, Mr Mitchell Lewis will be attending to some of the work usually done by Jock.
