Dear Parents

I would like to congratulate the students from Year 6 who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on the weekend, and to thank our Year 6 teachers, Mrs McKay and Mrs Packer, the parents of Year 6 students and the Willetton Parish Catechist teachers for the many hours given toward preparing the students for this important occasion.

Cross Country Carnival

Thank you to all who took part in the cross-country carnival earlier this week. Congratulations to the winners of each race (each year level will be represented at the interschool carnival with a year level boys and year level girls team, each with five runners competing, the first four from each school receive points for their respective schools. This carnival is to be held on Tuesday 8 September at Manning Park, Azelia Road, Spearwood.

A special mention should be made to those students who persevered and completed their races even when things were difficult for them, this was a good test of your character and your resilience. With every runner receiving points for their team from first right down to competitor Number 30, it was important that the students really did try their best for their team and with about thirty points only separating first from fourth place on the day, the performances of many should be recognized. Thank you to those parents who attended and gave of their time to the carnival, and to Mr Leigh Chatt for his work before and on the day. The medallions were presented on the day to the race place-getters, with four families, the Atwell, Caffrey, Chen and Civich families having multiple place-getters on the day. Mrs Catherine Payne, along with several other parents, deserve a large vote of thanks for coordinating the training of students over several weeks leading up to the carnival.

Next week is a particularly busy one for the school with several important school events all happening at the one time.

School Photos

These take place next Monday and Tuesday. Your assistance in firstly returning the photo envelopes if not already done so is important as is making sure that the children attend school ready for the photos and appropriately dressed for the school photos which are to be in full winter uniform. Please see further details in the notices section of the newsletter.

Open Night

We open all the classes up for general viewing next Wednesday evening 2 September between 5.00pm and 7.00pm. You and your extended family and friends are invited to come and visit the various classes across all year levels from PK-6, as well as the Out of School Hours Centre (up until 6.00pm). This year we have invited all the incoming 2016 new families to attend and to participate in a special tour by the year 6 students. Please look out for these new families and make them feel welcome into their new school. Parking on the night is always at a premium and I ask that, with parking permitted on the oval you do so by entering from Querrin Avenue, parking in a order similar to that which took place at the Christmas Carols and other school events (face south towards Chelmer Way in rows), and when exiting do so through the gates onto Chelmer Way and then out towards Apsley Road.

Fathers Day Breakfast

This event this year will be on Friday 4 September commencing at 7.30am til 8.30am.

Grandparents Mass

We want to acknowledge and celebrate our grandparents in the school community for the support they provide both here at school and within their respective families. This also takes place next week on Friday 4 September commencing at 9.00am in the School Hall. That day will already be a busy one with the Fathers Day breakfast, however by having the two events together, we hope that some grandparents, especially the grand-dads can attend the breakfast and that some of the dads are able to stay for the community Mass in support of their children and to the many grandparents who contribute to the school. We are looking for grandparent volunteers prepared to assist with the various parts of the Mass including Readings and Special Minister role. Please contact the school to register your willingness to assist or email Mr Hofmeester with the same information
