Dear Parents

Orana Games

Today, in between the showery weather, we were able to conduct most of the planned activities as part of the "Orana Games". These were designed to coincide with the recently held Commonwealth Games. Importantly the activities were organized so as to build team spirit and to develop the relationships between children from different year levels working together. Thank you to the staff, especially Mrs Wieman and Mrs Davis for all the organizing and planning put into the events. Thanks to the parents who came to assist and support the students throughout the day.

School Visit

The school played host to over 40 visitors this morning as part of an ICT visit, to see first hand how technologies are integrated into the classrooms. In the short period the visitors were here they took the opportunity to view the current work being done in the Year 4 classrooms. Thanks to the staff and students who helped to ensure the visit was a success.

Farewell Assembly

As a community we take the time to farewell Mrs Leonie Brown as Administration Officer with a whole school assembly tomorrow morning followed by a shared morning tea. After 23 years here at Orana Catholic Primary School, Leonie's time here will come to an end this Friday 22 August. There are many Orana families, past and present, who started their association here through the contact they had with Mrs Brown. The association with many has continued on well past the graduation of students from the school. Leonie's dedication and service to the community is one we are all most appreciative of and thankful for. I personally would like to thank Leonie for her support and care given to me throughout my time here.

In addition to the special presentation at Assembly, honour certificates will be presented tomorrow and not on Friday.

Free Dress

Tomorrow is a free dress day with the theme to come dressed as one of your heroes. A gold coin donation is asked and with the money raised, it will be given to a charity chosen by Mrs Brown.

Performing Arts Festival

It has been a big week in the Performing Arts Festival for our school. The school band performed exceptionally well last evening at Chisholm Catholic College in Bedford.

The Year 1 classes will perform their two items on Friday 22 August at the Vasto Club in Balcatta (11.00am - 12.30pm session with Orana the second item on stage). The Junior and Senior Choirs will perform at the same venue that afternoon as part of the 1.00pm - 2.30pm session (items 4 and 6 on the program).

Next Monday 25 August the Year 6 classes will be presenting their item ("Daniel" - Choral Speech at the Morley Recreational Centre, 1.00pm - 2.30pm - item 3). We also have individuals and small groups performing.

Cross Country Carnival

Next Tuesday the school will hold the intra-school cross-country carnival (Year 3-6) on the school oval. Start time from 11.00am. The timetable of events is linked to last week's newsletter.

Vigilance and Courtesy (Carpark)

Attention and focus on safe driving in and around the carpark and surrounding areas is of the utmost importance. Please ensure that the maximum speed limit is 8km/hour and that you remain vigilant and aware of what is happening around these areas. We endeavor to ensure the safe transition of students in and out of the school at all times. Your utmost assistance is required at all times.
