Dear Parents

A big thank you and congratulations to the Year 6 students and their families, as the students took a very important step in their liturgical lives last weekend with the conferring of the Sacrament of Confirmation. This was the culmination of many weeks of preparation and education and I would like to thank our Year 6 teachers, Mrs McKay, Mrs Packer and Ms Vinci for their commitment and hard work over this time. My thanks also to Mrs Rego as Parish Coordinator, to Mrs Woodgate liaising between the school and parish, to Fr Thai and Fr Daniel, and to His Grace, Archbishop Timothy Costelloe for conferring at both Sacramental Masses last weekend.

Parents and children in Year 3 are reminded that there is a parent-child workshop next Thursday 14 August, as part of the preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. These workshop style meetings form an integral part of the Sacramental programs, and as such it is important that every child is present with at least one parent from each family in attendance. Two workshops will be held and you are required to attend one, either at 5.30pm or at 7.00pm. Both workshops will be conducted in the Parish Hall at the John Paul Centre.

Farewell Assembly (Mrs. Brown)

In recognition of the 23 years of service to the Orana community, it is planned that a farewell assembly be held in honour of Mrs Brown's work here in the school over such a period of time. In place of the usual Friday whole school assembly, there will be a whole school assembly on Thursday 21 August instead with the major focus being to recognize and thank Leonie. On this day we are inviting all students to dress in free dress with the theme "Hero Day". This is an opportunity for children to come dressed as one of their heroes for the day in return for a gold coin donation, the money for which will be donated to a charity of Mrs Brown's choosing. A morning tea will immediately follow the assembly for all parents, giving an opportunity for Orana's community to thank Leonie. There will be more details to follow closer to the day.

P&F Meeting

Tonight is the first P&F Meeting of this school term. The meeting will start at 7.00pm. All parents are more than welcome to attend.

Fire and Emergency Drill

We all participated in a fire and emergency evacuation drill this morning. All students, staff and parents were accounted for and moved to the designated Muster Point in an orderly manner. It is the intent that there be at least one other practice this term, most likely at a recess or lunchtime break.

2015 Intentions

Planning for 2015 is underway and it is important that we know of your intentions for your children's 2015 schooling. Today, coinciding with the newsletter, is a letter requesting information about your child's schooling for 2015. There are, across most year levels, waiting lists of students and therefore your assistance in indicating whether you intend your child to be here or elsewhere for next school year is required.

Pupil Free Days

A reminder, that later in this term, there are two advertised pupil free days for students here at Orana. There will be no classes for students on Friday 5 September and again on Monday 8 September. This coincides with Fathers Day.

Whole school assembly on Friday with honour certificates for students in the junior classes. All parents - you are most welcome to attend.
