Dear Parents

Open Night

Thank you to the many people who attended last week's Open Night here at school. The night was a great opportunity to view the progression of work on display in the various classes and to gain some insight into the excellent work being produced across the year levels. I would like to take the opportunity to thank the staff for their commitment and dedication to the students here at Orana and for opening up their rooms on the night. Thank you to the Out of School Hours Care Centre for opening up the Centre, and to the Orana School Band for again putting on a superb performance on the evening.

OSHC Important Information

Once again important information relating to the OSHC Centre, including the schedule and booking arrangements for the upcoming vacation and for Term 4, as well as several requirements of parents when booking places into the Centre can be found by clicking here and the booking form, please click here. This is the same information as printed last week, for those who have not acted on the contents of the information and who intend using the Centre, please do so as a priority.

Year 3 Parent Meeting (laptop programme)

Thank you to the parents of the Year 3 children who attended last Wednesday night's laptop programme meeting. For those who were not at the meeting, it is important that you have a copy of the order forms distributed on the evening. Should you wish to discuss any matters about the programme, please make the effort to speak to either myself or Mrs Perrigo in her role as ICT Coordinator within the school.

School Sports

Tomorrow we have our field events for selected students, Year 3 and above. These students should know already who they are and have some idea about when their event starts. The main sports day with running races and team events is not until early next term, Thursday 23 October.

Uniform (Winter to Summer)

We change from winter to summer uniform next term with a two-week transition window where either uniform may be worn to school. Full summer uniform must be worn from the commencement of Week 3 next term, Monday 27 October 2014. The Uniform Shop is open on Tuesdays from 8.30am through until 10.30am.

Re-Shoe Project

This term, the Year 5 classes asked people from our community to donate unwanted shoes to the "Re-Shoe Project". A huge thank you to all those kind families who donated over 250 pairs of shoes to people in Kenya who will benefit from having "new" shoes. This really highlights generosity, one of our school values. The last day for donations is this Friday, so please bring any more shoes straight to Year 5. Thank you.

Vigilance and precaution required

Information received at the school has indicated that, at nearby schools, some parents have had their bags grabbed from cars in the five minutes or so they have left their car unattended to collect their children. It is relatively easy for someone to be at school and blend into parent crowd at certain times of the day. It takes less than ten seconds to literally smash and grab. Please be vigilant to this, we ourselves were targeted earlier this year when a parent left the vehicle to go to the OSHC Centre.

To the four ex-Orana boys who were recently selected for the East Fremantle AFL Development Squad (14's), Class of 2011 - Ben Ruscoe, James Kelly, Mark Nelson and Jacob Menezes.

This Friday we will have our weekly whole school assembly with honour certificates for students in the middle and upper primary year levels. All parents are always welcome to attend.

Have a safe holiday to all. Classes recommence on Monday 13 October.
