Some recent research on the benefits of learning a musical instrument! For those who didn't see this story on Channel 7 News recently, it highlighted some significant findings in relation
to the link between learning a musical instrument and NAPLAN literacy results. The item can currently be viewed at the following link.

How playing a musical instrument benefits your brain. Anita Collins is a lecturer in music education at the University of Canberra. She presented this lecture at last year's national ASME conference.

Instrumental Lessons

Our instrumental tutors are concerned at the number of students not turning up for their scheduled lessons, especially in the upper grades. All lesson times are displayed on the Music Room board so there is no excuse for not knowing your lesson time. If the teacher has to come and find you it just wastes valuable teaching time. Students also need to maintain a regular practice routine in order to continue making progress.

Some students are failing to pick up their instruments between lessons each week. Instrumental lessons are not very interesting when you end up working on the same music every week because you haven't practiced. Check out the websites above. Do your brain a favour and start practicing your instrument!
