Assembly Performance For Term 3

The School Band will be performing this Friday, 15 August.

All Band members will need to meet in the hall on Friday by 8.30 am with their instrument and music for a warm-up and tune please.

Week 6: Friday 29 August - Senior Choir (THIS DATE HAS CHANGED)

Performing Arts Festival Week 5

Tuesday19th August - School Band, Chisholm Catholic College.
Students must be in the warm-up room at Chisholm by 6.45 pm at the very latest.

Uniform: Full winter uniform, jumpers on and socks and shoes for girls, no stockings.
Time: Performance time is 7- 9.30 pm (Orana Band is on 3rd). You are free to leave once we have performed.
Tickets: Parents are invited to attend. Tickets at the door for $4.00.

Friday 22nd August - Primary Choirs, Vasto Club Balcatta.
Both our Senior and Junior Choirs will be performing between 1.00pm & 2.30 pm.

Uniform: Full winter uniform, jumpers on and socks and shoes for girls, no stockings.
Tickets: Parents are invited to attend. Tickets at the door for $4.00.

Saturday 23 August - WA Classical Guitar Ensemble Festival. Venue: Carine SHS - Everingham St, Carine.
64 guitar ensembles are involved over the weekend. Orana will be one of the very few primary school ensembles.

Uniform: Full winter uniform, jumpers on and stockings for girls.
Time: Meet in the warm-up room at 2pm (Room 3). Performance time is scheduled for 2.40pm, however they may run ahead of schedule. You are free to leave once you have performed.

Band Rehearsal Week 5

Due to our performance at the Festival on Tuesday night, we will have a band practice on Monday 18 August between 12.15 & 1.15pm at school. Please make sure you bring your instrument to school on this day!

There will be NO BAND ON WEDNESDAY 20th AUGUST.

Congratulations to our Classical Guitar Ensemble who have made it to the playoffs for the shield. They will be performing again at Trinity College on Friday 29 August to a panel of adjudicators.

Perth Summer Orchestra Camp - January 21 & 22 2015

This exciting camp is open to Wind, Brass and String Musicians from primary school to year 7. Students need to be at the standard of Grade 2 - Grade 5. (Students don't need to have sat exams.) Ms Draper has the application form if you are interested. We do have a number of musicians at Orana who would be eligible to participate. More information can be found on the website.

RESHOE ORGANISATION

The Year Fives are doing a shoe drive. The name of the organization we are supporting is Reshoe. They send second hand shoes to people in third world countries. The shoes can prevent people from getting infections and suffering from other health issues.

The shoes must be in good condition. The deadline to send them in is the end of October. Each class will be given a shoe box with lots of information inside If you have some shoes that you have outgrown or don't need, please deliver them to the Year Five classrooms. Thank you.

OSHC

A friendly reminder that Friday 5 September and Monday 8 September are Pupil Free Days. Orana OSHC will be open from 7.30am - 6.00pm. LOST PROPERTY

Brady Inferrera from Year 3B has lost his new woollen school jumper. The surname INFERRERA is written on the tag. It would be very much appreciated if you could check that your children are wearing their own jumper and return Brady's to 3B or to the office. Thank you for your cooperation.

THE ORANA GAMES

In recognition of the recent Commonwealth Games, we will be hosting 'The Orana Games' on Wednesday 20 August 2014. This is a fun event where students will be able to participate in different activities in their factions. Parents are welcome to come and support their children, and volunteers from each year group would be very much appreciated to help run the eight stations. Students will be participating in their year groups at different times throughout the morning. Please see the times below.

Times:
Years 1 & 5 from 9.00-9.45am, Kindy & Year 3 from 9.50am-10.35am, Years 2 & 6 from 11.00am-11.45am and Pre Primary & Year 4 from 11.50am- 12.35pm.

ORANA NETBALL NEWS

The home and away games for the 2014 winter season were completed last weekend. All teams had a fantastic season and did Orana proud!

Our Year 6 team had some great wins and showed great improvement throughout the season considering some of the team were new to the sport. The Year 5's had a fantastic season as they easily transitioned into the full Netball competition . The Year 3/4's team also had many wins and each player continued to develop and improve their netball skills. Our Year 2/3 team finished off the season in wonderful style, they improved and gained confidence with every game and ended with some great wins. Thanks to all the coaches, managers, parents and supporters who helped make the season so great!

In exciting news, our Year 5 team made the finals finishing second on the ladder. We wish them the very best of luck for their semi-final this Saturday. It would be great to see lots of Orana supporters there to cheer them on, so if you are free Saturday at 8.30am at SDNA, Langford please come along and cheer loudly!

SOCIETY OF ST VINCENT de PAUL NEWS

The St Vincent de Paul Society is opening a new Vinnies shop in October located on Canning Hwy, Applecross. We are looking for mums, dads, grandparents and neighbours to volunteer anywhere from a few hours per week to full days, doing a variety of jobs including merchandising, working the cash register, cleaning, customer service, sorting and hanging donated clothing. Our shop will be open 9am to 5pm Monday to Fridays and 9am to 4pm Saturdays, and we provide training to all volunteers. It is a great opportunity to make new friends while supporting not just Vinnies but also the local community. Vinnies are also looking for quality donations of clothing and bric a brac to help fill this new shop and so if you have anything to donate please drop if off at the Vinnies shops located in Myaree, Willetton or Hilton and mark it "for Applecross" to help kick start the new shop with some great pieces. ALTAR SERVERS

Our parish of Ss John & Paul are in need of more Altar Servers to assist at the 6.30pm Saturday evening Mass, 7.30am, 9.00am, and 10.30am Sunday Masses. If you have made your First Holy Communion and would like to be included on the roster as an Altar Server, please contact Pat Bonser on 9332 6219. Training sessions are being conducted on Monday 11 & 18 August or alternatively on Wednesday 13 & 20 August at 3.30pm at the Church. Thank you for considering this important responsibility to assist our parish priests in celebrating the liturgy during Mass.
