Performing Arts News

Congratulations to all students who participated in the Performing Arts Festival over the last 6 weeks. A large number of students have received either Certificates of Merit or Honourable Mentions, which shows the high standard that Orana students set at their festival performances. Well done to these students.

Once we have received these awards we will advise at which assembly they will be getting awarded.

Congratulations to the school band on being the recipients of the Parents and Friends Federation Award in the Primary Concert Band Section of this year's festival. The school band also won this shield in 2011 and performed at the final concert at the Concert Hall. We will not be performing at the Concert Hall this year. There are 37 shields awarded for the different categories of the festival so unfortunately not all winning performances can be included in the final concert. However, we will be sending a school band representative to the evening concert at the Concert Hall on Monday 16 September to receive the shield on behalf of our school band.

A big thanks to our great team of instrumental teachers who do a fantastic job teaching and preparing our music students. We are very lucky to have such dedicated and inspiring teachers.

Choir and band rehearsals will return to their normal time from next week.

Junior Choir - Tuesday morning 8.15am - 9.00am

Senior Choir - Wednesday morning 8.15am - 9.00am

School Band - Thursday morning 8.00 am - 9.10am

Unfortunately, some changes have had to be made with the running of the Uniform Shop. We wish to advise that when families leave Orana we will no longer be able to process the sale of pre-loved uniforms on their behalf. The credit note system which currently operates will continue for families with children in lower year levels. This will help facilitate a more cost effective management of the Uniform Shop. Many thanks for your understanding with this matter. Donations of unwanted uniforms are still welcome.

Congratulations to our chess superstars who represented Orana at a chess tournament at Trinity College. The "C" division team, consisting of Chris Cakir, Gianni Petta, Travis Bosnyak and Thomas Erkes, won many rounds. The "D" division team, Max Coten, Riley Wilson, Luke Ngo-Guest and Kyran Taylor, also won many rounds and scored enough points to earn a third place medallion. Thank you to the parents who supported our teams, especially Mrs Coten and Mrs Erkes who transported the teams and assisted the boys throughout the day. A big thank you to Mrs Bosnyak who coordinated the initial entry to the tournament and assisted in many areas during the chess tournament.
