Dear Parents and Carers

Yesterday the Year 3 children enjoyed a fabulous day at the Schoenstatt Shrine in Armadale taking part in a variety of activities to help them prepare for their upcoming Sacrament of Reconciliation. A reminder to parents that the Parent and Child workshop is being held on Thursday, 19 September at either 5.30pm or 7:00pm. The parish hall will be the venue for these workshops.

Inter-School Cross Country

Congratulations to all those students who represented Orana on Tuesday at the Inter-School Cross Country carnival. Despite the terrible weather everyone tried their best and should be proud of their efforts. Thank you to Miss Harrison and Mrs Wesley for training the children so well.

Apple Bus Tour

On Wednesday morning Orana was once again chosen to host an Apple Bus Tour. We were chosen to showcase the amazing work that is happening with the 1:1 laptop program. Approximately 60 visitors from across the country, interstate and Asia spent the morning learning about our program and speaking with the children in Years 4, 5 and 6. The visitors were very impressed by the passion and excitement displayed by our students and how well the children were able to articulate the processes taking place. Thank you to the Years 4, 5 & 6 classroom teachers and in particular to Mrs Perrigo for organising such a prestigious event.

Edu-Dance Concert

The first of the Edu-Dance concerts was held on Wednesday afternoon with the Blue classes showcasing their talents. What a spectacular performance by everyone! We are looking forward to seeing the White classes in action next Thursday afternoon at 2:00pm.

Oval parking will be available and we ask parents who avail themselves of this option to please exit by the back gate after the concert. This will keep the drive through area free for regular traffic.Whole school Mass

Next Tuesday, 17 September at 11:00am, we will be celebrating a whole school mass in the school hall. All children from Pre-Primary to Year 6 will be attending. The Pre-Primary classes will be leading us in the Responsorial Psalm and Year 3W will be acting out the Gospel. Parents are very welcome to join us for this Eucharistic celebration. The theme of the mass is "Celebrating our Differences."

2014 School Fees

During 2013 Orana has experienced some issues with collecting school fees on time from a number of families. At the school Board meeting last Thursday evening, a decision was made that from 2014 the options for school fees will change. School fees will no longer be sent out each term. Instead families will need to pay by direct debit on a fortnightly or monthly basis. The school fees will be divided into 26 fortnightly payments or 7 monthly payments. There will be two start dates for the fortnightly payments starting at the end of February and the monthly payment will also start at the end of February. There will still remain an option to pay up front. This will make budgeting easier for families and the school.

There will be more information circulated towards the end of Term 4.

Pupil Free Day

A reminder that Friday, 27 September is a pupil free day. The staff will be undergoing a day of faith formation at Yidarra Catholic Primary.

Purple Day

To acknowledge the Dockers, as they approach their next finals game, the children are encouraged to wear purple for the day on Friday, 20 September. Children are to wear their blue sports shorts but may wear purple accessories such as Docker's jersey, purple socks and purple ribbons - no purple hair spray please.

Mr McMahon is in Karratha for the rest of the week. Please address any concerns you have to either Miss Whyte or myself.

We ask that you keep Mrs Vinci, one of the 6B teachers, in your prayers as her father passed away on the weekend. May he rest in peace. Finally we ask that you keep our whole school community in your prayers as there are a number of families facing challenging situations.
