LAPATHON 2015

It was with much enthusiasm and joy that students completed lap after lap of the school grounds last Friday in our lapathon. Now, it is time for families to collect the sponsorship money and send it back to school in a clearly marked envelope. Thanks everyone for an amazing effort.

The day is to raise awareness of Childhood Brain Cancer (CBC) which kills more children each year than any other disease in Australia. The two main beneficiaries of this project are The Telethon Adventurers and The Kids Cancer Project.
We ask that the students dress as Pirates for the day and make a gold coin donation.

ORANA'S BIGGEST MORNING TEA

Orana is asking for your help in raising vital funds for Cancer Council, through Australia's Biggest Morning Tea.

You can attend and donate in person:

  • On: 29/05/2015 at 9:30am - $5.00

  • At: Orana Catholic Primary School Hall

Or you can make a tax-deductible donation online, even before the Morning Tea date listed above. Simply go to their online fundraising page.

Once you've donated, you will receive a tax deductible receipt via email. Your donation will help fund Cancer Council's research, prevention and support services. So raise your cup and together let's do all we can to beat cancer. We thank you for your support.

AUSTRALIAN MATHEMATICS COMPETITION

Orana Catholic Primary School will again, this year, be taking part in the Australian Mathematics Competition. The competition is taken annually by hundreds of thousands of Primary and Secondary school students. It is designed to challenge the students' problem solving abilities as well as their knowledge of mathematical concepts.

This year the test will be conducted on Thursday 30 July for students in Years 3 to 6. It will occur during the school day under the supervision of volunteer parents.

This is a voluntary competition. If you would like your child to take part in the Australian Mathematics Competitions, please complete the form which will be distributed by your child's classroom teacher this week. The cost of the test materials is $6.00.

Please note that the form must be returned with the correct money in a labelled envelope by Friday 12 June. Any entry forms received later than this date will not be accepted.

If you are available on 30 July to help supervise children sitting the test, please indicate on the form in the space provided.

SCHOOLS WISH LIST COMPETITION

The West Australian and Channel Seven are giving West Australian schools the chance to WIN a share in $20,000 to turn their schools wishes into reality.

On Saturday June 13, 20 and 27, an entry will appear in the Weekend West. To be in the running to WIN, we are asking our families and friends to collect as many entry forms as possible.

This is a wonderful opportunity for us to work together as a community for the benefit of our children. You can drop your entries in the collection box outside the school office on Monday 15 June.

ROSARY

Come along to the Library and pray the Rosary with us on Mondays & Wednesdays from 9.00am-9.30am (after assembly). It is a wonderful opportunity to come together and pray for your personal intentions, Orana School community intentions and for our wider community/world. There is an Intention Book in the foyer of the front office for prayer requests. All are welcome, including young children.
