Music Rehearsals

Ms Draper is taking some long service leave for several weeks. All Band and Choir Members did get a note earlier this term regarding rehearsal schedules for the next 5 weeks.

Senior Choir - Next Rehearsal is Monday 20 April. (1st day of term 2)

Junior Choir - No rehearsal week 8 but otherwise unaffected.

Band - Rehearsals are unaffected so normal rehearsals on Wednesday morning.

Guitar Ensemble - Rehearsals as normal on Thursday morning with Mrs Alexander.

Apart from Senior Choir rehearsals, all other ensembles will have minimum disruptions. Senior choir people need to make sure they practice their songs at home as they have a long break. Please, please keep singing your songs!

Musical Instruments left at school

Ms Draper will not be at school to remind you to take your instruments home. If you happen to leave your instrument in the music room then Out of School Care staff has a key to open the room to get your instrument out. They are here until 6 pm on school days and during the holidays.

All musicians, but in particular guitarists, should have their name clearly marked on their cases. Many cases look the same and as a result of that, someone took the wrong guitar home last Friday.

"The Armed Man"

A Mass for Peace and a tribute to the ANZACS in the year of their centenary. A concert not to be missed!

Two of WA's leading musical ensembles, The University of Western Australia Choral Society and The Royal Agricultural Society of WA Brass join forces to present the WA Premier of "The Armed Man." A Mass by Welsh Composer Karl Jenkins, subtitled "A Mass for Peace"

The Armed Man was written in 2000 by Welsh composer, Karl Jenkins. "What better way, within the framework of a Christian musical and liturgical form, both to look back and reflect as we leave behind the most war torn and destructive century in human history, and to look ahead with hope and commit
ourselves to a new and more peaceful millennium" The performance is in 13 movements beginning with the beating of military drums, the brass band gradually building up to the choir's entrance, singing the 15th century theme tune, The Armed Man. The piece then moves through such movements as
the "Kyrie, "Sanctus" and "Hymn before action" which builds to its final devastating line, "Lord Grant us strength to die". It then continues into the "Charge" as war is now inevitable. At the very centre of the work is "Angry Flames" an excerpt from a poem about the horrors of the atom bomb attack on Hiroshima, by a poet who was there at the time of the attack. The work then turns to remember that one death is one too many as we move to the beautiful movements, Agnus Dei and Benedictus.

The work tells a story, makes people think and tugs at the heartstrings.
