Just a reminder that payment arrangements for fee accounts must be in place by next Thursday 12 March. Many thanks to all those families who have already attended to this.

The 2015 AFL Season is almost upon us. The school runs several activities for the footy fans amongst our community. Notes will come home this afternoon so that families can join the fun.

The Orana Dockers Raffle

Firstly, we run a Dockers Raffle for seats to all the Fremantle Football Club home games. Orana has had a family membership for years. It is not that we are a Dockers school. It is just that it is impossible to get similar tickets to Eagles home games. There are seats for 2 adults and 2 children behind the goals at the Subiaco end of the newly named Domain Stadium. They are in the alcohol-free area.

Raffle tickets will cost $25 this year so that we can cover the costs of the membership. Families may buy multiple tickets and winning tickets will be drawn the Monday after each Dockers home game to give families a chance to get organised.

The first Fremantle home game is Dockers vs Port Adelaide on Sunday April 5th at 4.40pm. The draw for this game will take place on Thursday 26 March at morning assembly.

Orana 2015 Tipping Competition

Secondly, we have an amazing Tipping Competition. Last year we had 120 tippers with weekly winners and wonderful end-of-year prizes including $2000 for first, $1000 for second and $500 for third. We are looking forward to another big year! If you belonged last year, you would have already received an eMail from us and just need a response to that. If you would like to join up, please fill out the form that went home today. Footy tipping remains at $40 and all money collected is paid out as prizes. The last day for entering our competition is Monday 30 March as the first game is on Thursday 2 April 2015.

Music Practice

A few of the Orana instrumental teachers are a little concerned at the lack of practice from some Orana students. Making a commitment to learn a musical instrument also requires a commitment to home practice. Instruments should be practiced a minimum of 3-4 times a week for at least 30 minutes. Progress cannot be made if no work is put in at home. Band and Guitar ensemble members have copies of all their music to practice at home as well as work set by their instrumental teachers. Holidays are now over and it is time to get into a regular practice schedule. Choose the days of the week you can fit in practice and stick to it. Before school is a productive time to practice.

Music Rehearsal Schedule 2015

All rehearsals are now up and running.

If you are late to school you still need to come to rehearsals. It is better to be late than not there at all! Band and choir members should have a rehearsal schedule for the term. Keep it in a safe place so you know what is going on.

  • Monday: 8.15am - 9.00 am Senior Choir (Yrs 4-6)
  • Tuesday: 8.15am - 9 .00am Junior Choir (Yrs 2-3)
  • Wednesday: 8.00am - 9.15 am Band Practice
  • Thursday: 8.15am - 9.00 am Classical Guitar Ensemble

Playing in an ensemble requires teamwork and requires a complete set of new skills that you can't learn performing alone. We can't get the work done if all members of the team are not there!

"The Armed Man"

A Mass for Peace and a tribute to the ANZACS in the year of their centenary.

Two of WA's leading musical ensembles, The University of Western Australia Choral Society and The Royal Agricultural Society of WA Brass join forces to present the WA Premier of "The Armed Man." A Mass by Welsh Composer Karl Jenkins, subtitled "A Mass for Peace"

The Armed Man, one of the most performed musical compositions penned by a living composer, is a popular work by the composer Karl Jenkins. It has been performed almost a thousand times since its first performance in 2000, which on average is more than one performance per week somewhere in the world.

Performed by a full choir, brass band and organ, the piece weaves together an eclectic collection of sources into a traditional Mass. Drawing inspiration from a range of material, including religious texts and poetry, The Armed Man tells a tale of war but ends with a promise of peace.

  • Location: Winthrop Hall, University of Western Australia
  • Date: Sunday, 3 May 2015 at 4pm. The cost for adults is $45. Concession tickets $35.

Tickets can be purchased online from, or by phoning (08) 6488 2440 on weekdays between midday and4pm AWST.
