Dear Parents

Holy Week Reflection

Our Holy Week reflection and prayer service will take place tomorrow afternoon in the school hall commencing at 2.00pm. This is an opportunity for students and parents to reflect on the significance and relevance of the Holy Week story as events and importantly, the meaning and relevance for us in our daily lives. Parents are more than welcome to attend.

Tomorrow evening begins the Easter Triduum which is the name for the liturgical season that concludes Lent and introduces us to the joy of the Easter season. It commences with the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday evening, continuing through Good Friday when the Lord's Passion is celebrated, to the Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday evening.

World Autism Awareness Day

Tomorrow is World Autism Awareness Day. Here at Orana we have a number of students with Autism. We believe it is both appropriate and supportive of others that we develop our understanding of Autism. Tomorrow children may come to school in free dress with a blue theme (blue being the colour worn in support of the day). There will be a whole school assembly tomorrow morning followed by morning tea for parents who wish to stay. At the assembly we will hear from a number of students who will speak about Autism and the interactions and experiences they have living or playing with children with Autism. The following link is to a story recently featured on the children's current affairs programme, Behind The News.

Swimming Carnival (Interschool)

Yesterday our school team travelled to the Rockingham Leisure Centre for the inter-school swimming carnival. In short, the students were fantastic, both in and out of the water. With a large contingency of vocal supporters in place, the team performed very well, finishing 3rd place overall (out of eight schools). This was a significant improvement from seventh place last year.

After nine or so years of voluntary service to Orana Catholic Primary School swimming team, Kylie Coten is relinquishing her role as chief trainer of the swimming squad in preparing children for both intra and interschool swimming carnivals. Kylie has been involved with Orana's swimming, with all three of her children representing the school, since 2007. On behalf of the Orana swimming students and their parents, present and past, our thanks and appreciation is extended to Kylie for all her work and expertise over this extended time period. A presentation from the P&F was made to Kylie immediately following yesterday's Carnival.

This school holidays, Claire Coten (Class of 2011) will be swimming in Sydney at the Australian Swimming Championships (Open and Junior events).
