Thank you to those families who have entered suggestions for the naming of our sports factions. So far we have had some great suggestions but would love to have more to choose from when the judging takes places in a few weeks time.

Music News Week Two

Instrumental Music Programme

If there are any new students to the school wishing to learn a musical instrument at Orana in 2014 please see Ms Draper in the music room to discuss as soon as possible please.

All instrumental lessons will have started by the end of this week. Parents are asked to correspond directly with the instrumental tutors in regard to any queries about lessons.

Parents please talk to your children about the need to ensure that all musical instruments are stored in the band room during the school day. There is no space in classrooms to store them and they should not be left out on benches. The band room will be accessible during recess and lunch lessons. Many thanks.

Band and Choir Rehearsals

Monday 8.15am: Senior Choir - Commencing 17 February

Wednesday 8.00am: Band - Commenced today

Students who successfully auditioned for choir would have received a note this week with all the details.

Yr 4's who leave for swimming at 8.55am are still required at band and choir rehearsals. Ms Draper will dismiss these children at 8.45am in time for swimming.

Orana Social Work News

Mrs Irene Wright, the School Social Worker is available to children, parents and staff at Orana Primary School. Social Workers are employed directly by Catholic Schools. They are qualified counsellors who work with children and families experiencing difficulties related to school and personal matters. THE SERVICE IS FREE AND CONFIDENTIAL.

Mrs Wright is able to assist with issues such as:

parenting concerns, bullying issues, separation and divorce, bereavements and grief, self-esteem and confidence, sibling fights, school refusal, stress and anxiety, conflict resolution

Mrs Wright is available each Monday, Tuesday, and also Wednesday mornings. Please phone 94574907 to arrange an appointment time.

Chess Club News

Once again we would like to run a chess club for our students. In the past this has been a parent driven activity and is supported by the school leadership team. A number of parent helpers from 2013 are no longer available so we are looking for more parents to assist the students develop and improve their chess strategies. As choir and band now take up the first three mornings of the week I may need to change chess club to Thursday morning depending on parent volunteer availability. Club time is 8am to 8.30am and any parents are welcome to assist (including FIFO, part time helpers…) - even if you have just a basic knowledge of chess moves.

P&F News

The first meeting of the P&F for 2014 will be held in the school library next Wednesday evening commencing at 7.00pm. Please come along and join in.

Car Park Raffle A reminder that the first of the 2014 car park raffle winners will be drawn at the morning assembly on Monday 17 February. Please send back the reply slip as well as $20 which enters you into 4 draws, one for each term of the 2014 school year. Extra reply slips are being sent home today. GOOD LUCK!!

Class Reps We are looking for class reps for 4B and Pre Kindy White. Flyers have been sent home today and if you can spare a little time and have a child in either of these classes, please consider volunteering for one of the rep positions.

Scholastic Bookclub

The Scholastic Bookclub order forms are being distributed today. Please complete all sections clearly and in full to ensure prompt processing of your order. Head Lice

There have been a few cases of head lice in the school. Parents can you please check your child's/children's hair and deal with the problem if there is a need.

Uniform Shop

A number of white inter-school t-shirts are still to be returned from 2013. Can you please check to make sure you have returned the shirt if you hired one last year.


Menus for Term 1 2014 have been sent home. If you did not receive one please ask your child to collect one at the canteen or office.

Rosters have been sent home to those who have volunteered to help in the canteen. Its not too late to send your reply slip back as help is always needed.

JMK Karate

Johnny Moran Karate teaches kids karate classes at Orana Primary, in the school hall.

Classes are held after school and are a great way for children of all ages to learn self-defence in a fun and safe environment. Students who attend the schools on-site After Care are collected and taken to the class in the hall and returned to After Care when their class is finished. Karate has many benefits which includes confidence, respect and fitness.

After-School Dance Clinic (Term 1)

All Pre-Primary to Year 3 children have been given a registration form for an After-School Dance Clinic run by Play 4 Life. The sessions start Thursday 27 February (3.25pm - 4.25pm). Registration Forms must be returned to school reception by Wednesday 26 February.

Dance is Coordinated and run by Physical Education and Dance Specialists, all with their Working With Children Checks. The Clinic focuses on Maximum Participation during Organised and Fun 6 x 1 Hour sessions. The cost for the clinic is $60.00 per child, and is held on the school grounds.

If you are interested in letting your child learn and develop basic Dance skills, in fun sessions and you have not yet registered, then please do so by completing the registration form and return it to Reception by the due date. Reds Hockey

Willetton Reds Hockey Club is a strong advocate for active girls and boys. We have been providing active team sport for 40 years and will soon be starting our registration for junior hockey at our club. Our club has well structured coaching programs that include the involvement of both current and ex Olympic hockey players. We also have dedicated parents and young seniors giving their time to coach and provide kids with an enjoyable and safe sporting environment.

Registration for our Junior program (Yr 5 and above) is from 11am until 2pm on either Saturday 15 February at Trevor Gribble Reserve, Cnr Karel & Parry Ave's, Bull Creek, or Sunday 16 February at Aquinas Hockey Club Rooms, Mount Henry Road, Salter Point. Try Rugby 2014 Goats Want You !!!

The Curtin Rugby Club (The Goats) is seeking junior Under 6s through Under 12s for the 2014 season. Games are held on Saturday mornings and are played at Britannia (Leederville). Rostrata Netball Club

Are you interested in Saturday NETBALL for 2014? Your child can join the Rostrata Netball Club if they will be turning 8 or older this year! Ngala Term 1 Workshops

These workshops assist and support families with children 0-6 years to gain and share knowledge on child development. During the workshops, families will work with Ngala education facilitators to develop practical strategies that will assist them with parenting through the early years. Workshops are informal and welcome babies 7 months and younger to attend.
