Musical Instrument Cases

All instruments that are arriving at school need to be delivered to the music room at the start of the day. They should not be put in classrooms nor left outside on the benches. There were seven instruments that spent the whole of last weekend at school. Please remember to take your instrument home. Mrs Draper does not want to see any instruments left here over Easter. With 5 days off school, it is a great time for some extra home practice. Band members have lots of pieces to work on.

Students in Yrs 3 and 4 are expected to bring their recorder and book to all class music lessons. If the recorder lives in children's school bags then it is always at school for lessons and always at home to practise.

Mrs. Draper has a recorder in her room that someone has obviously lost. Unfortunately, it has no name on it. There are around 120 children at Orana with the same recorder. Please put your name on your recorder, recorder case and book.

For the first time in 34 years, Perth will be hosting the National Band Championships. Forty one bands from around Australia will be descending on The University of WA over the Easter long weekend.

On Saturday morning, there will be a Street Parade of Bands in Northbridge starting in Russell Square and heading up James Street to finish at the Plaza. This is an exciting spectacle for the public.

Entry at UWA is $10 per adult per day and children U/13 are free. If you are not doing anything over the Easter weekend why not take some of the budding Orana musicians to a National Championship. It might be another 34 years before it comes back to Perth. More information can be found on the website: http://www.nationalbands2013.com

Entry forms are now available for the 2013 Performing Arts Festival for Catholic Schools and Colleges. The festival will commence with a Mass at St Mary's Cathedral on Thursday 25 July. Entry forms must be handed in to me by Thursday 16 May so that they can be processed and sent to the festival office by the official closing day which is Friday 17 May. Mrs Draper will be entering our choirs and the school band. Students who are participating in private music tuition at Orana may be invited to enter the festival and I have asked that tutors communicate this information to parents, as there is an entry fee involved. Instrumental and vocal sections are open to students from Years 4 to 6. However, the student's performance should be of a good standard (song choice should be age-appropriate and suitable for a Catholic festival). If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to speak with Mrs Draper or myself. Conny Whyte, Festival Coordinator

Reminder fee accounts were sent out earlier this week. If your account is still outstanding, payment is requested by Thursday 4 April. If you are unable to do this please contact Ann Fissioli to set a direct debit arrangement in place.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
