MUSIC NEWS

Choir Rehearsal

Choir rehearsals will commence in Week 3.

Choir times will remain the same as last year. Senior Choir (Yrs 4-6) Monday mornings from 8.15am - 9.15 am. Junior Choir (Yrs 2-3) Monday afternoons from 2.20 pm - 3.05 pm. A note will be distributed to choir members shortly.

Band Rehearsal

The new time for band practice this year will be Wednesday morning from 8.15 am - 9.20 am. This is to avoid the clash with sport carnivals and training which always occur on a Tuesday. Band rehearsals will commence in Week 3. An invite will be distributed to students shortly. Beginners to the music programme are eligible to join the school band once they have reached a minimum standard on their instrument.

Instrumental Music Programme 2013

All places in the music programme this year have been filled to capacity. We have over 90 students learning an instrument through Orana this year.

Saxophone, Flute, Brass and Clarinet lessons have started this week, whilst Percussion and Guitar Tutors will commence in Week 2.

Tutors should have contacted you directly with lesson information.

Please remind your children to check their lesson timetable to ensure they bring their instrument to school on the appropriate day. Lesson timetables are displayed on the music room window and also next to the staff room door in the Quad.

Music Stands

Ms Draper has a number of folding music stands looking for a new home.

These are being discarded by a community band but are still in good working order. If you need a music stand for your home practice, you are welcome to visit the Music Room for one.

Position Vacant in the School Band

Ms Draper is looking for a piano player to play the Glockenspiel part in the school band. They will need to have been playing for a couple of years and be good at reading music. Please see her if you are interested.

ASSISTANCE WITH FEES - HEALTH CARE CARD TUITION FEE DISCOUNT SCHEME

The Catholic Bishops of Western Australia are determined that no family be denied the opportunity of education in a Catholic school because of financial difficulties.

The Health Care Card Tuition Fee Discount Scheme was implemented in 2005 and offers discount on tuition fees to holders of a means-tested family Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card. The scheme offers significant, automatic tuition fee discounts to both Catholic and non-Catholic families.

Families that qualify for the scheme will pay AU$230.00 for kindergarten and primary school tuition fees and AU$1400.00 for secondary school tuition fees for 2013. Specific charges such as subject and building levies and excursion costs will still apply, however these can also be discussed with the Principal.

CHESS CLUB

The school Chess Club will commence on Wednesday 20 February from 8.00 am - 8.30 am in the Library. We endeavour to have a core group of parents who assist with the running of the club. This enables us to teach beginners, assist those children who are learning the game and also prepare children who wish to compete in chess competitions. If you are able to assist in any way please see me when Chess Club begins. Students from any year level are welcome to attend. Conny Whyte, Assistant Principal
