O God, you raised up Mary MacKillop

in your Church to found a Religious Order

dedicated to the education of children.

May we, as members of the Church today,

be attentive to the children in our midst

who receive no education and to those

with little knowledge of their faith.

May we, like her, follow Christ the teacher

as we preach the Gospel through our daily lives.

We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen

Blessed Mary of the Cross, teaching God's little ones, pray for us.

Dear Parents and Carers

Our term has come to a rapid conclusion and I know that our students are well and truly looking forward to the holidays. We wish Mrs Di Lena all the best as she will be taking long service leave in Term 2. We welcome Miss Samantha Spadaro who will replace her while she is on leave.

Congratulations to our interschool swimming team on their performance at Rockingham pool on Tuesday. They finished third in the handicap shield and were outstanding competitors and supporters of each other. Their behaviour in the swim bays between races was exemplary and they were a credit to the school. Thanks must go to Mr Rijs and Mrs Harrold for organizing the swimmers on the day and supervising them. I would also like to thank Mr Faulkner, Mrs Coten, Mrs Kelly and Miss Whyte for training the students before school. It was a considerable time commitment to give and very much appreciated by the Orana community.

Well done to our staff and students on organizing Mission Day. It was an outstanding success and the money will be well received by Project Compassion.

Once again I would like to take the opportunity to thank the staff of Orana for their hard work and dedication in providing a sound education for the students at our school. I am sure they are looking forward to the holidays to recharge and be refreshed and vitalized ready for Term 2.

School Monies

When families are sending money to school, I am asking that it be sent in a sealed envelope with the amount written on the front. The teachers will then be able to record the amount in a money book and the office staff will count and receipt the monies. This will provide the school with a sound process with the collection of monies. Your help in this matter will be very much appreciated.

I would remind families about their responsibility in regard to payment of school fees. There are a number of fees still outstanding. If there are concerns in dealing with payments, please come and speak to me so as alternative arrangements can be made.

School Camp

We wish our Year 6 students all the best as they attend camp from Wednesday 8 May in the first week of next term. I am sure they, the staff and parents attending will have some memorable experiences to recount on their return.

Week 2 of next term will be NAPLAN testing for students in Years 3&5. Please note that if students are absent, the school is unable to make up testing time outside of this week due to the government rules that apply.

Catholic Schools Do More With Less

Catholic schools have been providing a quality education for Australian children for over 180 years. There are 1700 Catholic schools in Australia, with an enrolment of almost 704,000 students. One in five Australian school students are educated in a Catholic school.

When all forms of government funding are considered (that is, both federal and state), Catholic school students receive substantially less funding per student than government school student

Term Dates

Please note Term One concludes Friday 19 April and students start back in Term 2 on Tuesday 7 May.
