Dear Parents

School Reports

School Reports (electronic version) will be made available this Friday 11 December. In order to access your reports you will require both your username and password, the same ones that were made available to you for the Semester 1 School Reports in July of this year. If you have lost your username and password please contact the Front Office.

There are points in relation to the reports that I would like to draw your attention to:

  • Changes to the System we currently use for storing of the reports is changing and you will need to print both School Reports out should you want to have access to either in the future. The site will no longer be accessible after 31 December 2015 and, while we still will retain a copy of your child's reports here at school, it is advisable for you to take a hard copy of the same for your own records.
  • An Explanatory note specifically written in regard to School Reports can be found here. This should be read in conjunction with the reading of the Report.
  • Next week the staff will be present at school as we still will have meetings and planning sessions ongoing throughout the week. Should you wish to discuss your child's report with a teacher you are invited to do so but it will be necessary to contact the Front Office to ensure that a mutually convenient time for this to take place is made.

Science News

We have had a brilliant response to the Scitech after school programme due to be run in Term One 2016. The expression of interest note was to be returned by last Friday as places were given on a first-come first-serve basis. Both of the workshops are now completely full and indeed oversubscribed. We will be running another workshop series in Term Two for those that missed out to ensure that they are provided the same opportunity. The workshop dates for Term One have changed slightly and the first group workshop will commence on Thursday 11th February running from 3.15-4.15pm. The second workshop will commence on Thursday 10th March running from 3.15-4.15pm. A note will be sent home in the first week of Term One with information regarding which group your child is in. Please see Mrs Tilzey (Science Specialist) if you have a preference for workshops at the beginning or end of term, or even if Term Two is better (most likely to be on Thursdays once more)

Whole School Mass

Many thanks to those who attended the whole School Mass for students, staff and parents last Friday. It was fantastic to see so many parents and family members attend the Mass. Thank you to Fr. Thai for celebrating the Mass and to Sister Janet Palafox (IBVM) for attending as our guest. Thank you to Mr Hofmeester for his preparation and organizing of the Mass and special mention to those who participated by serving, reading, or as part of the music for the Mass.

We also gathered for the presentation of the Loreto Endeavour Award for 2016, presented to one incoming 2016 student (Year 6), in recognition of their display of the values held by the Loreto Sisters, many of which the school has also embraced. The Award was presented this year by Sister Janet Palafox from the Loreto Sisters and awarded to Abiram (Abi) Kalaiarasan (5W class).

P&F Staff Morning Tea

On behalf of all the staff at Orana I sincerely thank the P&F for supplying a delicious morning tea today.

At this time of year we farewell a number of students and their families from the school community. I would like to acknowledge those students leaving the school and wish them every success in the future at their new schools. To the families of these students, a big thank you for the time and commitment you have given to the community, with special mention to those within the parent community who have served on School Board and P&F over the years. The school is a richer place for having had your support.

End of Year Activities

Tomorrow is the final day for Year 6 students and their families. There will be a leaving assembly and traditional balloon release ceremony commencing at 2.15pm here at school starting off in the school hall. Parking for parents will be available on the oval.

Tomorrow is also the last day for kindergarten students for 2015 school year. It has been a big year for these very young students and they richly deserve their time off at home - equally so the staff who have worked in this part of the school during 2015.

Congratulations also to our youngest students, Pre-Kindergarten (3 year olds) for successfully completing the first of many years of school education. To them and staff too, a restful Christmas break.

Year PP-5 students, your last day for lessons is Friday 11 December. Children will be dismissed from the undercover area from about 2.45pm. Again well done to all for the work they have completed in 2015 and thank you also to all those who have played a part in your education throughout this year.

Class Lists

This year again the class lists will be distributed electronically and sent out on Wednesday 16 December Where circumstances exist that you do NOT want your child's name placed on the class lists, it is imperative that you inform the Front Office of this before close of business on Tuesday 15 December. Your child's name will not appear on the class list and you will be informed of the class placement for your child on the Wednesday at the same time as everyone does. While the school subscriber list is generally only accessed by parents and grandparents of children here at Orana Catholic Primary School I still ask that the list not be copied in any form in respect of the privacy of individuals.

Christmas Wishes

On behalf of the staff here at Orana Catholic Primary School I would like to wish all families a holy and happy Christmas as well as a relaxing and safe holiday period. I look forward to seeing the many who are returning back here for the start of a new school year in early February 2016.
