Dear Parents

Annual General Meetings

The AGMs for the School Board and the P&F were both conducted last Thursday evening. Thank you to those parents and staff members who took the time to be present for both of these. I would like to acknowledge those people who have served the school community as members of the School Board and P&F throughout 2015 and in particular thank our Board Chairperson, Marina Spence and P&F President, Lisa Foster, both of whom have completed their terms and both also leave the school community at the end of this year. For 2016, two new community members were elected onto the School Board. They are;

  • Jeremy Petersen
  • Joe Smyth

Also joining the School Board, as P&F Representative next year will be;

  • Rachel Heron

They join the following already on the Board:

Both Assistant Principals also attend the Board Meetings.

I thank, at this time, Joey Carlos who has been a Board Member for a number of years standing down at this time.

The P&F Executive for 2016 will be:

  • Yet to be filled (Treasurer)

Along with outgoing P&F President, Lisa Foster, I would like to thank other P&F Executive Members standing down from their positions at this time - Katrina Cooper (Vice President) and Kara Passi (Treasurer) for their service to the school and make special mention of Maria Pizzuto who has been a regular attendee to P&F meetings and an active contributor to many P&F events over many years.

P&F Class Liaison reps will be decided at this week's P&F Meeting.

2016 Staffing

The placement of staff here at Orana for the 2016 school year has now been finalized.

At the end of the year we will farewell the following members from Orana Catholic Primary School.

  • Leigh Chatt (PE) - moving to a similar position at St. Michael's School, Bassendean. Leigh makes way for the return of Mr John Rijs back to the position as PE teacher here, John having finished a period of extended leave from the school.
  • Anita Urquhart (Year 1) - Anita makes way for permanent staff returning or transitioning in the school.
  • Melissa Vinci (Year 1) - Melissa will commence her maternity leave shortly.

I thank these staff members for the service given to this school.

In addition to the above, staff members Dayana Nottage, Tracey Hopkins and Leanne Bidzinski all remain on leave from the school in 2016.

Joining the staff next year will be;

  • Emma Bell (Assistant Principal). Emma is currently a curriculum consultant in Catholic Education.
  • John Rijs (PE teacher).

Cricket Carnival

Some of our senior students will be representing the school at an interschool cricket carnival next Tuesday 24 November. We wish them every success.

Christmas Carols Night / Christmas Play

On Tuesday 1 December at 6.30pm, we are presenting our annual Christmas event. Rehearsals are well underway. All classes will be performing at our Christmas Concert at the school. Children need to be dressed in a Christmas t-shirt with a free choice of 'bottoms'. Christmas hair adornments are acceptable. All family members and friends are invited to come along for some great entertainment and a chance to join in with some carol singing. All students (except K and PK) will be onstage for the entire performance. Kindy and Pre Kindy students will return to their parents after performing the opening songs. Seating areas will be allocated for picnic rugs, low chairs and higher chairs so that everyone gets a good view. The second part of the evening is Carols by Candlelight. The P & F are selling LED candles for a gold coin donation. It would be fantastic for our performers to look out and see candles as they sing. We are hoping everyone can attend.

Parent Information Sessions (2016)

In preparation for 2016, please be informed that the Parent Information sessions for PK, K, PP, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 will be conducted on the morning of Friday 29 January starting at 9.00am and finished around 10.30am. Some of these year levels will be invited to bring in the book orders and unpack them into the desks in preparation for school, as well as the usual array of crepe paper and tissue box requests. The start of each school year needs to be a smooth one for your child and these plans are in place to try and take away some of the anxiety associated with the first day of the new school year. We are asking that at least one parent from each family make themselves available to be present at the class meeting on the morning of Friday 29 January 2016 between 9.00am & 10.30am. Parents with multiple children in these year levels will have an opportunity to meet briefly with the other year level teacher on that day to receive the same information.

For parents with a child in Years 4, 5 and 6, your class meetings will be conducted on the evening of 8 February 2016.

Thank you Morning Tea

A reminder that there is to be a morning tea for parents this Friday, immediately following the whole school assembly. This is to thank parents who have contributed to the school, through their assistance, to the many requests for help throughout the school year.

Remembrance Day Service

A really special Remembrance Day service was held here at school last Wednesday and I would like to thank those parents who came along in support of this school event. Thank you also to the students for the way that you all conducted yourselves and participated in the service. I would like to acknowledge and give special thanks to Mrs Packer (Year 6) who coordinated the service and was responsible in a large way for the meaningful service.


This Friday there will be a whole school assembly. All welcome to attend.
