Dear Parents

You would be aware that our Principal, Mr David Barns, was reviewed under the Principal Review Process this year. The process involved the School Board, P&F Executive, the Parish Priest, Staff Members, Catholic Education Office personnel and the Principal. Their input was both in written form and verbally through interviews with the Review Panel who visited the school. The review culminated in a meeting between the Principal and the Executive Director of the Catholic Education Western Australia, Dr Tim McDonald.

The process has now been completed and Archbishop Tim Costello has endorsed the appointment of Mr David Barns as Principal of Orana Catholic Primary School, Willetton for a third contract period of four years.

As a result of the review, David has developed a professional growth plan which will ensure his continued development and benefit the future of the school.

On behalf of the School Board and the Orana Catholic Primary School community, I congratulate David on the achievements over the last contract period and look forward to the future.

Yours sincerely, Marina Spence, School Board Chair.

Annual General Meetings

Tomorrow evening we will have our two AGMs, the P&F AGM to start at 7.00pm immediately followed by the School Board AGM. Both Meetings will be conducted in the school library. They are not long in duration and will be completed by 8.30pm at the latest. I encourage all families to be represented at these meetings.

Swimming Lessons

I take this opportunity to thank the staff, children and parents for attending to the in-school swimming lessons held over the last two weeks. The inclusion of such lessons into the school curriculum is an important one especially given our climate and close proximity many have to swimming pools, the river and the beach.

Interschool Athletics Carnival

Congratulations to all who represented the school so well at last week's interschool athletics carnival. The students were supportive of the efforts of their teammates and were great ambassadors for the school. We finished Day 1 in 4th place and overall Orana was 6th (out of 9 schools) on 186 points. Well done to all competitors and to our sports teacher, Mr Leigh Chatt for all his excellent work, along with a number of parents who gave generously of their time to train the students - Catherine Payne, Maria Pizzuto, Paola Mena and Paula Harding.

Individual honours went to;

Year 3 Boys - Eoin Caffrey (Bronze medal)

Year 4 Girls - Grace Foster - (tied for Bronze medal)

Year 4 Boys - Brayden Atwell & Charles Henderson - (tied Gold medal)

Year 6 Girls - Denae Civich - (Silver medal)

Thank You Morning Tea

The Orana staff appreciates the support the Orana parent community has given to our students and to the staff throughout 2015. We would like to thank you all for your generosity and support.
