Dear Parents

Community Mass

As part of the school's connection to the Parish of Sts John and Paul, Willetton, students from the junior classes will this weekend be taking a leading role in the Saturday night Vigil Mass. An open invitation is extended to all our school students to come as a family to Mass as a sign of the commitment to parish and school. Mass commences at 6.30pm with choir members required to be at the church no later than 6.15pm.

Remembrance Day Service

The school will commemorate Remembrance Day next Tuesday 11 November with a service to be held here in our hall commencing at 10.40am. All parents are most welcome to attend. Children who are in Guides and Scouts are invited to wear their uniforms on this day.

Christmas Carols Night

On Tuesday 1 December 2015, at 6.30pm, all classes will be performing at our Christmas Concert at the school. Children need to be dressed in a Christmas t-shirt with a free choice of 'bottoms'. Christmas hair adornments are acceptable. All family members and friends are invited to come along for some great entertainment and a chance to join in with some carol singing. The P&F will have LED Candles for sale for the carol singing.

AGM for School Board and P&F

Notice is given that the Annual General Meetings for the School Board and for the Orana P&F will take place here at school on Thursday 12 November starting with the P&F AGM at 7.00pm to be immediately followed by the AGM for the School Board. All parents are welcome to attend.

School Sports (Interschool)

Day 2 of the interschool athletics carnival will take place tomorrow at Santich Park, Spearwood. Congratulations to our competitors who participated in the Day 1 events held yesterday, with special mention to all for their behaviour and the way they represented the school.

This Friday, we will have 5 teams (3 from Year 6 and 2 from Year 5) competing in the 2015 Champion Schools Triathlon to be held at the Champion Lakes Centre. The triathlon is made up of a 200m swim, 6km bike ride and a 2km run. We wish the competing year 5 and 6 teams every success.

2016 Class Placement

Discussions regarding class placements for next year will shortly commence. In consultation with your child's present class teacher, I will be compiling the class lists for 2016. There are a number of factors that must be taken into account when balancing class lists including academic ability, gender, interpersonal relationships, and social dynamics. Parental requests are an additional factor and I would like to make clear my policy on this matter.

Parental requests can only be met in exceptional circumstances. However, if you believe that there exists such circumstance in relation to your child, you are invited to outline this in writing, addressed to me and returned by Monday 9 November. No requests will be considered after this date and please do not ask your child for their preferred teacher, as this does not constitute an exceptional circumstance. When writing your request, please be clear in your reasoning, as unsubstantiated request cannot be considered.

Bishops Religious Education Assessment

Each year students in catholic schools throughout Australia sit a Religious Education Literacy examination. These are administered to students attending catholic schools at Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Individual assessment reports have been sent home with the children in Year 3 and in Year 5.

Welcome Back

We welcome back to the canteen Mrs Alison Honter who has been away on an extended overseas holiday. I take this opportunity to thank Mrs Shelley Watkins for the fantastic job she did as our Canteen Manager during this time.

Swimming Lessons

Many thanks to the staff, children and parents for attending to the extra commitment associated with in-school swimming lessons held over the last two weeks. I once again say that the inclusion of such lessons into the school curriculum is an important one especially given our climate and close proximity many have to swimming pools, the river and the beach.

With three car break-in's in as many weeks, I again ask for your continued vigilance in and around the school grounds.

Whole school assembly this Friday with honour certificates for students in the middle and upper year levels. All welcome to attend.
